Traditional Apprentice Program (TAP) Students are set to graduate at Masvingo Polytechnic on 2 August 2024, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards acquiring technical and vocational skills. A total of 528 graduands from April 2019 to April 2024 are expected to graduate, having completed their studies in various fields.


Masvingo Polytechnic's Traditional Apprenticeship Program (TAP) has played a crucial role in shaping the skills and futures of these students. The program combines on-the-job training with related technical instructions, providing hands-on experience and mentorship under the guidance of experienced professionals.


The TAP program is a time-honored approach to developing skilled workers, where individuals learn a trade or occupation by working under the guidance of experienced professionals. The program lasts for four block-release periods, amounting to approximately one year, and apprentices earn a wage while learning.


The importance of TAP lies in its ability to empower disadvantaged groups with skills to fight poverty and inequality. The program promotes self-employment and contributes to micro-enterprise development, allowing individuals to learn about the business world and form business networks.

Masvingo Polytechnic offers TAP in various areas, including Carpentry and Joinery, Metal Fabrication, Plumbing, Construction, Domestic Electrical Installation, Basic Refrigeration, Electronic Equipment Repair, Motor Mechanics, Garment Making, Cosmetology, Panel Beating, Spray Painting, Diesel Plant Fitting, Tourism and Catering, Information Technology, ECD HIV & AIDS Counselling, Diesel Plant Fitting, Welding, Computer Graphics, and Photography.
