Women Entrepreneurship Day organisation Zimbabwe will this year facilitate a financial literacy training programme. The 2 day program aims to empower women with financial management skills. Masvingo Polytechnic department of business studies will provide with modules for the program. Commenting on the programme, Masvingo Polytechnic Principal, Engineer Callisto Mzongondi highlighted that Masvingo Polytechnic as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institution is mandated by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to provide training with emphasis on practical skills and competencies to all regardless of their academic qualifications. In this regard Polytechnic takes cogniscance of the fact that women are a crucial demographic and advocates for equal representation in all training fields and therefore always endevours to increase enrollment of women especially in male dominated areas of training. The institution recognises the unique role that women play in the community, and it takes the adage 'when we empower women, we empower the nation to heart. He further went on to elaborate that the college offers various courses and modules that aim to increase financial literacy and promote entrepreneurship and it also has a comprehensive sexual harrasemt policy that strives to create a free and inclusive environment in which women can participate in any field of training without fear of prejudice or discrimination.


Financial literacy is the ability to understand and use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting and management, and management investing. It allows one to make informed decisions regarding their money through understanding the four pillars of financial literacy, which are debt, budgeting, saving, and investing.


Tongaat Hullet Zimbabwe Head of Corporate and Industry Affairs Dr Dahlia Garwe announced that Hippo Valley Estates and Triangle (the Company) will this year participate in a Women’s financial literacy programme to be held in Masvingo on the 14th and 15th of March 2024. This is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs 1, which focuses on rural development, development, and education for girls and SDG4, which focuses on quality education. 


The company aspires to unleash the full potential of its community partners in line with the SDG aspirations, and women’s groups are part of that community. Through its newly introduced Productive Social Investment policy, the company will continue endeavouring to stimulate economic activity by facilitating the training of women in financial literacy in order for them to full players in building the economy of Zimbabwe 


The program aims to educate women entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their productivity, improve livelihoods, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the country. Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe has partnered with WEDO as they are a key stakeholder in the province with their main thrust being supporting, educating and empowering women in marginalised areas thus fitting into the Company’s development pillars as well as SDG 1 and 4.


 As a key takeaway from the last event that took place in Mwenezi District, a proposal was made to empower women through financial literacy from Masvingo Province.WEDO is a global movement celebrated in more than 144 nations, founded in 2013 at the United Nations, its mission is to empower the 4 billion women across the globe to be catalysts of change, and uplift the 250 million girls living in poverty globally.
