Youth Empowerment and business incubation hub sets in motion

The much awaited Youth Empowerment Hub (YEH) will start on 12 May at Masvingo Polytechnic with various mentors ready to articulate various topics to young people.

The skills development program is meant to connect the youth with various movers and shakers in industry and commerce to create an ecosystem that will propel them to greatness. The Hub will also expose youths to business and economic opportunities and link them up with various skilled and experienced mentors.

Reginald Chapfunga, the board chairman of Shekinah Media which is spearheading the project, highlighted the need to keep the young people productive so that they cannot be attracted by drugs and other societal ills prevalent in Zimbabwe.

He said mentoring youths and giving them a platform to air their views was a way of empowering them and inspiring the next generation of great leaders.

“We are trying to create a situation whereby youths from all walks of life come together and share ideas on issues affecting them. For mentorship purposes, we have roped in university lecturers, captains of industry, heads of Government departments, various community leaders, and various experts to be part of the program. We are confident that this interaction will enable youths to find solutions to challenges they face,” said Chapfunga.

“The program is also meant to bring about a think tank that will formulate some quality conversations for the benefit of communities.  We are therefore inviting young people from all walks of life to register for the program.”

Shekinah Media hopes a collaborative effort with industry will produce a sustainable on-going program which will benefit communities immensely.

The program also seeks to, among other things;

*identify key challenges and critical answers that need to be tackled in addressing young people’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights, linking the provision of reproductive health education to reproductive health services

*Build awareness, acceptance and support for youth-friendly SRH education and services;

*Address gender inequality in terms of beliefs, attitudes and norms; intervention packages and how best to deliver them.

*Foster a mindset of greatness which will transform our economies through innovation and economic integration

*Formulate some exchange programs with other organizations and industries.

*Showcase and market the brands for existing young businesses.
