WEDO partners Tongaat Hullet in Celebrating International Womens’ Day

 Tongaat Hullet has partnered  Womens Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) in celebrating International Womens’ Day. The giant sugar company will be represented by its Communications Manager, Charity Tambandini.  The event is going to take place at  Mwenezi Development Training Centre in Mwenezi. Charity is a seasoned corporate communications expert with over 20 years of professional experience gained in the media, banking, mining and regulatory sectors. Charity started her career as a Journalist with local and international Media houses before branching into Public Relations field with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe as Public Relations Officer. She also worked for Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation as Public Relations Manager and the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe as Corporate Communications Manager. She then joined Tongaat Hulett as Communications Manager on 1 August 2022. She is responsible for formulating and managing communication strategies; stakeholder relationship management; brand management and promotes awareness on the operations of Tongaat Hulett. Charity’s indelible footprints at all the organizations she has served include her leadership in the development of transformative corporate communications strategies; media relations; life changing Corporate Social Responsibility Programs; sustainable brand activation; digital and online visibility; employer branding  and promoting high levels of diplomacy, etiquette and effective internal communication at organizational level. She graduated with a Master of Science in Strategic Management (Chinhoyi University of Technology); BA English and Communication Studies (University of Zimbabwe); Diplomas in Mass Communication majoring in Print Journalism and Public Relations (Harare Polytechnic) and a Diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy and International Relations (Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy). Charity believes that effective corporate communications is an indispensable strategic lever that shapes and increases organization value, image and influence across the economy. She believes every organization is a story waiting to be told and corporate communication’s role is to unpack the story in an engaging and audience specific format. Charity will be highlighting what the Tongaat Hullet is doing in empowering women in communities.  Tongaat Hullet is giant corporate in the agribusiness which includes sugar, ethanol, animal feeds, cattle production. Situated in the Lowveld (Zimbabwe) The giant corporate also focuses on cane growing, sugar milling and refining and It’s one of the major exporters of sugar in the Southern  Africa Region. 

Other Speakers expected on the day are Mwenezi Development Training Centre Programmes Managing Director Ms Promise Makoni , WEDO Masvingo Ambassador and Eben Hardware Director Benonia Machavuda, Renowned Business Strategist and Academia Dr  Watson Munyanyi Mukungunugwa, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Mwenezi Rural District Council.  We are also expecting a digital consultancy company to present on embracing technology for socioeconomic development. International Women’s day is celebrated on the 8th March every year and the month of March is regarded as women’s Month. The event is being hosted by Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) in partnership with Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Mwenezi Rural District Council. WEDO is a global movement celebrated in more than 144 nations and its mission is to empower the 4 billion women across the globe to be catalysts of change, and uplift the 250 million girls living in poverty globally. In addition to our mission of empowerment, we are committed to gathering a think tank of inspiring women leaders who can amplify our message of expanding businesses with social-good initiatives in communities around the world.

We are expecting over 200 participants mainly women entrepreneurs, business leaders to be part of the historic event. There is also going to be exhibitions. Women will showcase their products and services. We are also inviting various exhibitors to come and exhibit on the day. The event will take place on the 28th of March. Participants will be entertained by a renowned artist Bless Maramba who has made waves on the Music arena with a hit song Madzimai Magamba which is translated as ‘women are heroes”

 We are also expecting Mwenezi District Council to articulate various business opportunities in the District.  The establishment of the Amarula plant by the Government of Zimbabwe through the National Biotechnology Authority of Zimbabwe at Rutenga is set to benefit locals and other investors who are venturing into the value addition business as a result of the Amarula processing plant. 

Communities of Mwenezi  reaping benefits from the recently established Amarula plant through employment and selling Marula/Mapfura fruit to the company. The plant is part of the country’s industrialization agenda, which is premised on innovation in the exploitation of locally available resources to grow the economy and more similar projects are on the cards. The Amarula processing plant has been hailed as a stepping stone in ensuring communities accrue tangible economic benefits from locally available resources.

 Mwenezi Rural District Council is a District Situated in the Southern of Zimbabwe originally known as Nuanetsi, the District is bisected by the Mwenezi River  and the A4 Highway.  The main thoroughfare that connects the town of Beitbridge on the border with South Africa to Masvingo. It is endowed with vast Investment opportunities like Mining, Agriculture. About 30km-40km from Neshuro lies Manyuchi Dam with vast opportunities like the construction of a Mini-hydro power plant- 5MW to feed the national grid, Cultural tourism through the Chitsonga unique culture, Hotels, conferences, lodges, boating around Manyuchi dam and game ranching. Fishing cooperatives, fishing competitions, employment creation, fishing, camping sites available.

Tourism opportunities consist of Trophy hunting along Runde,Bubye Rivers/Manyuchi dam. Conservancies for Private players,Mushonganeburi curves,Chesvingo ruins,Manyuchi dam,Bubye Valley Conservancy,Big five,Nuanetsi Ranch

 The District consists of vast Irrigable land with good soils utilizing dams like Manyuchi dam, horticulture projects using Manyuchi water. A great potential in growing Paprika for export. Sugar bean seed, maize seed, tomatoes, pepper,Citrus plantations utilizing Manyuchi water. Sugar Cane farming down Manyuchi dam. There are 25 000ha irrigable lands in Mwenezi using sources of water from Tugwi Mukosi and Manyuchi dam.  There is also game ranching stretching to Mwenezi River with various sources of rural livelihoods and economic development

 Land is also available for Infrastructural development and also available for both residential and commercial use. Feasibility studies undertaken shows that there are mining opportunities which include diamond exploration, gold exploration and extraction which leads to employment creation. This means more revenue source if mines are established. Mwenezi District has more than 50% of kimberlite pipes in the country. About 30 km from Neshuro growth point along Beitbridge Road lies Rutenga Growth Point whose opportunities are vast.  These include Rutenga Dry Port Convergence of rail lines from South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe, giving opportunity of setting up a fuel depot & lucrative business for Freight industry. Beef Industry Establishment-Abattoirs, Tannery, Beef Enterprise Feeder Finance Scheme. Land available for Housing, Industrial, Institutional, Commercial (modern shopping complexes, truck-inns, warehouses, abattoirs etc. Land is available for the construction of solar farms.
