The recent empowerment luncheon which was held at a local hotel has made a remarkable impact among women who attended the event. Over 40 women attended the event marking women entrepreneurship day celebrations. The day was being celebrated under the banner " property development, key to economic growth."The event was attended by various stakeholders including Masvingo Rural District Council, National Building Society, The legal fraternity the academia amoung others. Among other speakers were Mr Israel Makwarimba, The Executive Director Social Services Department Masvingo Rural District Council, Esther Chirwa, The team leader National Building Society. Dr Esnath Macharaga. Dean of Students Bondolfi Teachers College Adv Ennety Zvanaka Mhlanga who is a Law Lecturer at Great Zimbabwe University and pracitising Law at Saratoga Makausi Law Chambers. . In her welcome remarks The recently appointed WEDO Ambassador Masvingo and Director Eben Hardware Mrs Benonia Machavuda challenged delegates to work hard and so that they can acquire land for production and for property development. Mr Israel Makwarimba encouraged women to come to Masvingo Rural District Council to apply for land. " You must not be discouraged, When you are not satisfied you are allowed to ask for a more senior official so that your issues are attended to. Masvingo Rural District Council has various investment opportunities. Do not hesitate to come and discuss " . Esther Chirwa of NBS highlighted that when women own land, they are respected. Domestic violence is limited when women own means of production. She also encouraged women to think big and consider buying land for development. If you have land National Building Society can build for you. " Ennety Zvanaka Mhlanga challenged women to rise up and be counted. " Ladies, do not be left at home when your husband is going to sign for land or bigger properties. You must be involved. Include your signature as well. This will avoid future problems. Let's be wise enough to be bankable women. Gone are the days where women were left at home while men would go and sign for deals. Be involved as women. Dr Macharaga also challenged women to acquire education. " Education enables women to be confident, education enables women to improve their quality and standard of life. Educated women have no limitation. Education enables women to participate in the socioeconomic development process of the land.
Other organizations that attended the event were Masvingo Polytechnic College. Nyaradzo group. Bondolfi Teachers College. The former Mayoress of City of Masvingo. Mrs Margaret Chakabuda. Prominent farmers , hoteliers, academia and entrepreneurs in various sectors of the economy. Others organizations that participated were Blooms Cakes which donated a Chocolate cake and Beautiful Designs which donated refreshments and sweets.
